The medal "For the 250th anniversary of Leningrad" (Russian Медаль «В память 250-летия Ленинграда") was awarded by the former Soviet Union, which on 16 May 1957 by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the occasion of the 250th Anniversary was donated to the foundation of Leningrad. The medal is made of brass, golden shimmer and has a diameter of 32 mm. It shows on their obverse the portrait of Lenin monument under a radiant Soviet star on the Neva River and the outlines of the skyline of the city of Leningrad in the background. The symbolism is enclosed by the above semicircular inscription: В память 250-летия Ленинграда (To 250th Anniversary of Leningrad). The reverse of the coin shows however coin at the top edge of the Badge of the Order of the Red Banner Order of Lenin and the two rest on a structure of braided ears of corn and oak leaves. Below is a two-line inscription: ГОРОДУ-ГЕРОЮ СЛАВА! To read (Glorious City of Heroes). Including the building of the Smolny Institute is to be seen as well as the underlying anniversary number 250 The medal was worn on the left side of the upper chest Beliehenen on a blue pentagonal clasp with a 3 mm wide white hem. In the middle of the belt, an 8 mm wide, red vertical center strip is woven. This in turn is passed through 0.5 mm wide, with two yellow yarns, the inner of which is 1 mm away from the outer.The medal was able to be given to two groups of people. For one of the defenders of Leningrad in 1942, regardless of place of residence, as well as workers, employees, civil servants, housewives, disabled veterans and retirees of all branches with a minimum period of 5 years living in the city of Leningrad, or one of its suburbs. The latter group of people had to have made a valuable economic and cultural contribution of the city during this time. The design of the award conditions was generous, so that 1.4459 million people received the medal.
